For more than 85 years, Sullins Eye Care has been dedicated to serving the vision needs of families across East Tennessee. Founded in 1939 by William David Sulllins Sr., the practice began as a small community office in Athens. Over the decades that followed, the profession of optometry began to evolve rapidly, and the practice grew along with it.

That commitment continued when Dr. Sullins’s son, William David Sullins Jr., joined the practice and went on to become one of the most influential optometrists in the nation. A Rear Admiral in the United States Navy and former President of the American Optometric Association, Dr. David helped shape the profession of optometry while continuing to care for patients back home.
The third generation followed when Drs. Trey (William David Sullins III), Christa, and Stuart Sullins, the sons and daughter-in-law of Dr. David, returned to East Tennessee after completing advanced training in Florida and Oklahoma. This group expanded the practice, adding a second location in Madisonville, TN, while preserving the patient-centered values that had guided the family for decades.
Today, the fourth generation continues this legacy. Drs. Tim and Kate Sullins, the son and daughter-in-law of Drs. Trey and Christa, joined the practice in 2025, bringing new expertise while honoring the traditions established by the generations before them.
Four generations later, the mission remains the same: delivering trusted eye care with a commitment to excellence, service, and community.
